Lopez Cristobal
Bodegas López Cristobal was born from a family winery under the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin, with the aim of using its own vineyards as a base to make high quality wines.
The founder, Santiago López, is an agricultural engineer who has always been associated with rural areas. Already at the beginning of the Designation of Origin, Ribera del Duero chose the vineyard plantation as a step before establishing its own winery. After a few years focusing exclusively on the world of viticulture, he made the leap into winemaking in 1994
Bodegas Lopez Cristobal is located on the site of an old farmhouse built by the grandfather of the family in the 1930s. When deciding to start wine production, a continuous renovation of existing facilities was started, resulting in an atypical cellar, with many buildings scattered around a large central courtyard, through which it took to keep one very original and cozy environment.
The López Cristobal family consists of four members: Santiago, Lola, and their two children Francisco and Galo. All of them, along with their oenologist Juan J. Ayuso, devote all their efforts to the continuous improvement of the vineyard plantations and winemaking processes.
The aim of Bodegas López Cristobal is to maintain the family philosophy of operation, it has been decided to abandon the large productions and only make its own grapes to guarantee a regularity in the wines and a strict quality control. The basis of the winery is an artisanal work in which the care for the vineyards and the wine is taken to the extreme.
