Tasting note:
This Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Loire region. Compared to Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé is always a softer and fuller wine. Aromas are fresh, citrus fruit and white flowers. In the taste something of lime and a little bitter. Enjoy it with fish dishes, sushi, salads, grilled fish, and soft cheeses.
It is no surprise that Patrick Girault and his son Adrien believe that a good wine should evoke the soul of its creator. After all, their family has been growing in Sancerre for eight generations, which means they have a high respect for their terroir, which translates into meticulousness in their methodology.
Over the years they have expanded the family estate from six to twelve hectares (30 acres) and have farmed sustainably since 2006 with mainly organic treatments on their vines.
Their vineyards extend across some of the appellation's prized terroirs, including the lieux-dits of "Grand Chemarin", "Petit Chemarin" and "Chêne Marchand" with 75 percent of their production dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc grown in the Kimmeridgian marl or Terres blanches, and 25 percent Pinot Noir.
To achieve aromatic intensity, the Giraults gently press their grapes, ferment on native yeasts and both vinify and age their wines in stainless steel tanks. Reminiscent of citrus blossoms, white flowers and hints of leafy green, the Sancerre blanc is crisp, wonderfully perfumed and well balanced with a long, lingering mineral finish.
