Puglia red wines The Puglia wine region is located in the heel of the boot in Italy, it has a sunny and warm climate. The soil is limestone and clay, which together with the sea breeze produce great red wines. Puglia has 4 DOCG wine regions. The most famous red grape varieties are the Primitivo and the Negroamaro de Primitivo has made a real advance thanks to the American Zinfandel, which after DNA research would turn out to be the Primitivo or related to it. Until the early 1990s, Puglia was more of a supplier to the north of the country to give the wines there more color and body. Now the Primitivo and Negroamaro are indispensable in the wine world.
