The Susumaniello grape is one of the rarest, ancient grape varieties in the world and was almost extinct until recently. This grape is only planted in the heel of Italy in Salento (Puglia), where Boccantino , among others, makes a very nice, smooth red wine.
Wines from the Susumaniello grape are often characterized by a deep ruby red color and aromas of red berries, blackberries and plums. Richer, more concentrated wines from this grape also contain spicy, peppery aromas and dark chocolate flavors. The name Susumaniello is a corruption of 'Somarello', which means donkey. In the past, donkeys were the means of transport for the harvest from the vineyard to the fermentation vat in the region where this grape comes from.

Through this project, the company, previously dedicated to the bottling of bulk wine, becomes primarily a producer with the development of "Brands of the land", thanks to the collaboration with small producers of high quality in those regions, historically most called for wine production such as South Tyrol, Tuscany, Veneto, Sicily, Piedmont, Apulia and Abruzzo. Secondly, through the acquisition of the wineries “Bacio della Luna” in Vidor – Valdobbiadene (Treviso) and “ Lunadoro ” in Valiano di Montepulciano (Siena). An evolutionary path that started many years ago and aims to strengthen ties with the land and its traditions. These values, together with the strong opportunities offered by technological progress, enable Schenk Italian Wineries to operate in a sustainable way,
