Chateau de Ricaud Blanc

Tasting note:

The rich calcareous soils of Château de Ricaud offer an extensive range of expressions and styles conducive to producing wines of very high quality.

While production of white wines remains relatively small, the wines still reveal the mineral character that truly embodies great calcareous terroirs. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, Château de Ricaud Bordeaux Blanc is a completely natural and aromatic wine, with an impressively lively character, good volume and length.

Chateau Ricaud

South of Bordeaux, near Cadillac, Château de Ricaud is blessed with exceptionally diverse soils. Seduced by the enormous quality potential of the vineyard and the stunning architecture of the property, Alain Thiénot purchased the castle in 1980. In 2007, he joined forces with Dourthe, and an ambitious redevelopment program followed, transforming Château de Ricaud into a quality benchmark in Loupiac and creating a Côtes de Bordeaux wine that is among the best in the appellation.

Château de Ricaud is a rough diamond in a natural environment in the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.

The castle produces several wines:

• ·       The Grand Vin of the Chateau , appreciated for its elegance and distinction, concentration and delicate tannins

• ·       Château de Ricaud Loupiac, full of flavor and lively and fresh on the palate

• ·       Well-structured, complex red wines that have intense fruit character with wonderful softness

• ·       And white wines that combine complexity with a rich and lively character (and produced in limited quantities).

The vineyards of Château de Ricaud are located in a natural amphitheater in one expanse of vineyards.

To realize the full potential of the terroir, an ambitious investment plan will be launched in 2007. A highly detailed map of the soils and subsoil confirms a diversity of terroirs unique to the Cadillac appellation.

In the north, near “Lieu dit Les Quints”, the most beautiful clay-limestone plots alternate with a deep clay vein. The soils here are favorable for early ripening and are particularly suitable for Merlot.
