Château Patache d'Aux
Medoc
Château Patache d'Aux is a fairly well-known Médoc of excellent quality. It already has a long history behind it. Wine has been made since 1632 and once belonged to Cardinal Aux, a cousin of Pope Clement V after whom the famous wine chateau 'Pape Clément' is named.
In the past it has also been a stopping place for 'diligences' (a kind of stagecoach) which are called 'pataches' here. Hence the name and even today the image of the carriage with white horses on the label. The domain has been owned by the current owners, the Lapalu family, since 1964.
This 43 hectare wine estate is planted with 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon , 30 % Merlot , 7 % Cabernet Franc and 3 % Petit Verdot . The wine stays in new French oak barrels for 12 months for a third. Powerful and concentrated, these well-structured wines can easily mature for 10 to 15 years in good years.
It is not surprising that these wines regularly receive medals and awards. It has a nose of beautiful red and black fruit and a light touch of wood. Its soft tannins and generous fruit make it harmonious and already pleasant to drink.
Pour this wine at 17 to 18 degrees and if possible uncork it an hour or two in advance or carafe it when it is still young, such an 'air bath' will only improve it. A fixed value in Bordeaux!
