Clos de Vougeot
Clos de Vougeot consists of 50 hectares of vineyards that are divided into no less than 82 winemakers. The vineyard of Clos de Vougeot was created in the early 12th century by Benedictines from Citeaux and has hardly changed since the 15th century, when a wall was built around it. The nature and quality of the wine varies considerably depending on where it was made and by whom. It is believed that the wines coming from the highest part of the Clos (which peaks at 250 meters) tend to be more generous and complex. Clos de Vougeot are harmonious, spicy and elegant wines with a deep red color. They are known for their intense and extraordinary aromatic bouquet, consisting of concentrated aromas of red and dark fruits (cherry, blackberry and black currant), forest floor and violets and, once matured, of fur (hare belly and musk). Full, fleshy, sinewy and long-lasting on the palate, these wines are balanced with fine and soft tannins and a discreet acidity. The great vintages also have an impressive cellar capacity.
