Clos de Vougeot consists of 50 hectares that are divided over no less than 82 Burgundian winegrowers. The vineyard of Clos de Vougeot, created at the beginning of the 12th century by Benedictines from Citeaux, has hardly changed since the 15th century, when a wall was built around it.
The nature and quality of the wine varies considerably depending on where it was made and by whom. It is believed that the wines that come from the highest part of the Clos (which reaches its summit at 250 meters) tend to be more generous and complex.

They are known for their intense and extraordinary aromatic bouquet, consisting of concentrated aromas of red and dark fruits (cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant), forest floor and violets and, once matured, variegated (hare belly and musk).
Spacious, fleshy, sinewy and long-lasting on the palate, these wines are balanced with fine and soft tannins and a discreet acidity. The great vintages also have impressive storage capacity (cherries, blackberries and black currants), forest floor and violets and, once matured, variegated (hare belly and musk). Clos de Vougeot
2005 is a year in which Burgundy offers very great whites, of extraordinary richness and finesse, and beautiful reds, full of structure and seduction.
The richness of these wines perfectly expresses the diversity of our terroirs. The very high quality of the wines obtained is mainly the result of very ripe grapes in perfect hygienic condition. Thanks to almost ideal climatic conditions, 2005 is therefore a reference year.
At harvest time, the berries of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (the two main grape varieties of Burgundy) were nice and juicy. The Chardonnay presented beautiful golden, airy bunches, bursting with sugar and the Pinot Noir , compact and very colorful bunches, characteristic of the greatest years. Due to the low rainfall and the north wind, the hygienic condition was remarkable and hardly any sorting was required.
The harvest went smoothly, under a radiant sun, which allowed the winegrowers to wait for the optimum ripeness depending on the grape varieties and the location of the plots. The sugar content of the grapes has reached very satisfactory levels, often high, with excellent indications of ripeness, proof of a good sugar/acid balance in the grand cru wines.
The thick skins of red grapes contain a high amount of polyphenols (color and tannin), with proven and recognized health benefits. The vinifications took place in an ideal way
