Tasting note:
Rudolf May Silvaner is the grape from the German wine region of Franconia. a wine with a juicy and fruity character. and an intensive fruit aroma of apple and white fruit
Silvaner is the grape from the German wine region of Franconia. Rudolf has a plot of approximately 1.5 hectares, planted with young Silvaner vines, which only yield a yield of approximately 60 hl/ha. Gutswein is the basis of May's range. But here we work with great care and you can enjoy a wine with a juicy and fruity character. The soil consists of Muschelkalk and this soil composition ensures healthy and fully ripe grape bunches and an intensive fruit aroma of apple and white fruit.
Rudolf May: Our pride and dream of our own winery. Viticulture has been in our family for 300 years. Own winery since 1998. Together with our family, mutual love grew, which is clearly reflected in our range. We are fascinated by Silvaner, whose character can unfold uniquely in Franconia. Bare, skeletal soils make our wine very dry and rich in finesse. This is how you discover the origin and not an exuberant, fruity bouquet. We work according to the guidelines of organic viticulture. This means keeping our hands off anything that could be seen as manipulation. With a grape quality of 100%, we can afford to let the must rest in our cellar without our intervention. We want to taste what nature has created
When selecting our vineyards, we place great value on sparse, skeletal soil - best planted with old vines (especially regarding Silvaner). When caring for our vines, we work without machines as much as possible, only with neat, expert manual work.
The name of this VDP.GROSSE LAGE® is taken from an old legend, which says that the souls of the winemakers here went to heaven (Himmelspfad means path of heaven). It is the hottest part of the Langenberg in Retzstadt and faces directly south. The old walls in the vineyards store even more heat. Also striking is the slope of 65%, which poses many challenges when caring for the vines. The Silvaner located here with its massive, old vines was planted almost 60 years ago
