Château Laroque has the largest area of vines of the Saint-Emilion appellation for a single domain (61 hectares in massive selection), while retaining the distinction of a grand cru classé. It has more than nine centuries of history in its exceptional chalky terroir. The Merlot variety thrives here, where it draws in all the water and nutrients it needs to reach full maturity. This Grape makes up about 95 % of the Château's finest cuvée, aided by its faithful companion, Cabernet Franc. The harvests are carried out by hand and the grapes are vinified per plot to respect the character of the individual terroirs. The extractions are soft and in small, concrete vessels so that the wine can retain its crispness. A specialty of the region, the aging is reductive (on fine yeasts) and lasts about a year in oak barrels. in 2015, the Beaumartin family welcomed David Suire, one of the top people of the appellation. He has been managing the vinifications for a year. Guides and professional tasters agree on the top quality of the property's latest vintages. Generous and structured, they reach remarkable equilibrium relatively quickly and have tremendous aging potential of 30 to 40 years.
