Shipped worldwide, large selection of wines
In 1971, Arnaldo Caprai , a businessman from the textile sector, bought the Val Di Maggio estate, just outside Montefalco. He started with barely 5 hectares of vineyard, but realized the enormous potential of the local sagrantino grape variety and bought more surrounding land. In 1988, his son Marco took over the management of the winery and from 1991 large sums were invested in new vineyards, scientific research and technological innovation. New clones of the sagrantino were identified and further experimentation was carried out in both vineyards and winemaking. The modern cellars, completely renovated in 1997, are equipped with stainless steel tanks and Slovenian and French oak barrels.
Currently, 90 hectares of vineyard are in production, mainly producing wines under the flag of the DOC Montefalco and Colli Martani Grechetto and the DOCG Sagrantino di Montefalco. The sagrantino grape is aged for 24 to 26 months in oak barrels to emphasize the complex character. The Sagrantino di Montefalco '25 anni' is the standard bearer of the house. The wine was created in 1993 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and has since then continued to score high in the national and international wine press.
