Visconti Lugana

The Visconti family put down its roots in Garda about a century ago and has always had a deep connection with this area, so much so that it was this family that believed in the potential of the Turbiana vine, an indigenous grape present in the area south of Lake Garda, even before Lugana became a designation of origin.

In fact, since the 1950s, after decades of activity, the Visconti family was preparing to announce itself as the first ambassadors of what would over time become one of the most exciting denominations of Italian oenology. potential of Lugana, a name that was virtually unknown at the time.

The passion and tenacity of the Visconti family made possible the spread of this vine throughout the southern part of Benaco, between Lombardy and Veneto, until it became the most important white grape in our territory and which contributed to making Garda wines nationally and internationally famous have become.

The production of Lugana was born and is inseparable from that of the Visconti family, so much so that to this day this name evokes the origins of Lugana. In particular, Lugana Visconti represents an element of identification of the city of Desenzano del Garda and is offered with pride and affection by most of the historical sites of the city center.

In the early 2000s, after decades of activity in the wine sector, the Visconti family decided to focus their entrepreneurial activities on other projects. Their legacy is passed on to another historic family that has always been dedicated to viticulture, the Formentini family. The desire and sensitivity to keep alive the historical memory and cultural value of a recognized and consolidated brand was immediately born. In 2012, when the historic cellars confirmed their intention to cease operations, an important agreement was reached between the two families to give continuity to the Visconti brand.

Two parallel paths, those of Visconti and Formentini, who found common interests and new synergies with ambitious and very prestigious projects. Lugana Visconti is still produced from the vineyards where they have been produced for decades.

The wines of the Visconti brand (from vineyards on flat land, where the clay is more concentrated and loose) retain their identity, linked to the territory and characteristics of the soil from which they are born. In 2015, after 3 years of research into the history of the Visconti brand, the current new image was presented.

A slow and painstaking study, dedicated to recovering the 'taste' of this brand in its main temporary identity, which dates back to before Lugana became a Denomination of Origin: the 1950s. This was in fact the era when the Visconti family, after decades of activity, was preparing to announce themselves as the first ambassadors of what would in time become one of the most exciting DOCs in Italian winemaking , showing great foresight and confidence. the potential of Lugana, a name that was virtually unknown at the time.
