Tasting note:
The wine has a deep, ruby red color with aromas of flowers and fruit (plum, red and blackcurrants). A two-year maturation in oak barrels provides an elegant, spicy sensation with hints of leather, hazelnut and nutmeg. It is a medium-bodied wine, beautifully balanced, with a ripe and fruity core, supported by soft tannin, a substantiated freshness and a long aftertaste of cherries, strawberries, coffee and cedar wood.
It is an elegant and traditional red wine for aging from one of the oldest wine regions of Tuscany. The word "Lodola" comes from the Italian word "lark". For centuries, these songbirds have migrated to Montepulciano where this wine is made. The word "Nobile" refers to the highest quality of wine. The Lodola Nuova estate has records dating back to the mid-1200s and has been producing wine since the 15th century.
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano originates from the hills between the Val d'Orcia and the Val di Chiana. The vineyards are located in a beautiful landscape rich in monuments, villas and country houses. The history of this wine has its origins in a secular oenological tradition, according to which the wine "Nobile" was already considered the "King of Tuscan wines" in the 17th century (Francesco Redi, Bacco in Tuscany). Today we can see that this drink, appreciated by the nobles and lords of yesteryear (hence the name), has kept its fame throughout the centuries. It is especially during these last fifteen years (the DOCG dates from 1980) that the wine-growing heritage of Montepulciano has seen a positive evolution, thank you, it must be mentioned, from January 1 of the year, to the financial commitment of producers and the assimilation of a more modern production philosophy. The improvement of the structure of the vines and of the cellar equipment has made it possible to raise the qualitative standard of Vino Nobile, today one of the most prestigious red wines in Italy.
