Tasting note:
This is a complex, classic Cabernet Sauvignon. Cassis, blackberry, leather and chaparral combine aromatically with flavors of toasted oak, boysenberry pie and vanilla. Medium-bodied and complex, yet retaining elegance and texture.
This stunning Cabernet Sauvignon is a tale of two Lake County appellations. Made with grapes grown in the High Valley and Red Hills appellations, it is a seamless representation of the best of both worlds.
Clay Shannon has always been a bit of a maverick. In 1996, he decided to defy convention and go it alone to establish a progressive, groundbreaking winery and ranch in Lake County, California.
This wild, challenging terrain captured Shannon's imagination and inspired his uncompromising dedication to the land itself. "We wanted to grow the best fruit we could," says Clay, "but we wanted to do it in a way that would make us happy to live there . "
Today, Shannon Family of Wines encompasses over 2,000 hectares of mountain estate, approximately half of which is planted with vines. As the Earth's climate is threatened, we are using our resources to do something about it. This includes transforming 1,000 hectares into a regenerative organic farming system that significantly reduces the impact on the environment. Our home is located on the ridges of ancient volcanic soil at higher altitudes. And while the conditions may seem extreme, the guest experience is extraordinary. Rustic charm, stunning views of the lake and abundant wildlife underscore the Western spirit that still lives in Clear Lake. Visitors enjoy award-winning wines, a variety of varietals and great value, all made with an earth-first approach. At Shannon Family of Wines we are true to ourselves and to the land.
California wine production has a rich viticultural history dating back to the 1680s, when Spanish Jesuit missionaries planted Vitis vinifera vines native to the Mediterranean region in their established missions to produce wine for religious services. In the 1770s, Spanish missionaries continued the practice under the guidance of Father Junípero Serra and planted California's first vineyard at Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The state produces about ninety percent of the U.S. wine supply and is the fourth largest wine producer among independent nations in the world. It has more than 1,200 wineries, ranging from local and small boutiques to large corporations with international distribution
