Roc de l'Abbaye Sancerre

Tasting note:

This Sancerre Blanc cuvée 'Tradition' is one of the references of Silex (flint) terroir wines.

This wine comes from various plots around the villages of Saint-Satur, Sancerre, Bannay, Ménétréol and Thauvenay. Florian demonstrates here the superiority of the Silex (flint) terroir! A cuvée with powerful citrus and flint-like aromas supplemented with the legendary elegant acidity of the Silex (flint)!

Domaine Roc de L'Abbaye

The Domaine Roc de l'Abbaye is located at the foot of the 'Clos du Roc' plot in Saint-Satur.

The village of Saint-Satur is located on the banks of the Loire River (eastern side of the Sancerre appellation) and at the foot of the Colline de Sancerre. Saint-Satur, the gateway to the Sancerre appellation and Burgundy on the other side of the river, enjoys a privileged geographical position within the appellation. Located on the main road, in the heart of the village, you walk right in front of the estate as you cross the appellation from east to west.

Anno 846

Saint Satur is a Christian martyr who died in Carthage in 203. The Archbishop of Bourges, Raoul de Turenne, transferred the relics of Saint Satur to the Saint Pierre Church in the village of Gordon. The village will henceforth bear the name Saint-Satur.

Anno 1034

Countess Mathilde, lord of the village, founded the Abbey of Saint-Satur, to house the canons regular of the Augustinians

Anno 1450

It is the end of the Hundred Years' War. 30 years after its destruction by the English, the Abbey of Saint-Satur founds Domaine du Clos du Roc, 4 hectares of flint (Silex) terroir vineyard, completely south-facing, considered the cradle of the Sancerre appellation. Seven years earlier, Nicolas Rollin and Guigone de Salins founded the Hospices de Beaune in Burgundy. In 1463, François Villon, the famous French medieval poet, came to the Abbey of Saint-Satur and drank wine from the Clos du Roc vines.

Anno 1722

In the wine hamlet of Boisgibault, in Tracy-sur-Loire in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, a winemaker and countryside ranger, André Mollet, was already harvesting Blanc Fumé (former name of Sauvignon Blanc) and Chasselas.

Anno 1900

At the end of the 19th century, Phylloxera destroyed most French vineyards. A winemaker and railway worker, Alexandre Mollet, replanted the family estate in Tracy-sur-Loire and became mayor of the village (1908-1920).

In 1946

Upon his return from Germany, where he was held captive, Paul Mollet, Florian's grandfather, founded the Cave Coopérative de Pouilly-sur-Loire together with other winegrowers from the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. He remained director until 1970, while continuing to run the family estate. Paul Mollet was mayor of Tracy-sur-Loire from 1971 to 1977.

In 1954

Pierre Maudry, Florian's grandfather, replanted the four hectares of Clos du Roc in the village of Saint-Satur.

in 1973

Paul's son, Jean-Paul Mollet, married Rose-Marie Maudry (daughter of Pierre Maudry). They brought their 2 family domains together under the name Domaine du Clos du Roc.

In 2000

Florian, Jean-Paul's son, began to manage the family estate and continued his father's hard work. Credited with his talent in winemaking, Florian built a modern cellar next to the Clos du Roc plot and successfully expanded the family estate to 17 ha. Thanks to his expertise in France and abroad (Australia, South Africa...) combined with his in-depth knowledge of the flint (Silex) terroir, his wines have become the reference for connoisseurs looking for freshness, chiselled minerality and refined aromas .

2020

To this day, Saint-Satur is known for its ancient abbey and its flint terroir on the hills along the Loire River. Domaine Roc de l'Abbaye , managed by the Mollet family, continues to cultivate the iconic 'Clos du Roc' plot, as well as some of the region's finest examples of flint (Silex) terroirs
