Castelwines

Castellani 's company was founded in Montecalvoli at the end of the 19th century when Alfred, a long-standing wine grower, decided to start bottling and selling his wine

Alfredo's son, Duilio, begins the company's expansion period together with his brother Mario. Duilio, a meticulous and diligent man, takes an active part in every stage of work. The main vineyard is in Santa Lucia, in the fertile Arno Valley, where a lively and maturing red wine is produced and bottled in typical straw-covered flasks, attracting the attention of the transalpine markets. In the following years, Duilio's first-born son Giorgio, a determined and ambitious man, begins large-scale exports.

The 1966 flood caused extensive damage to the Montecalvoli winery. It was then decided to temporarily transfer the company to the Burchino estate, on the hills of the village of Terricciola. Giorgio's brother, Roberto, a brilliant journalist at the newspaper "Il Giornale del Mattino" in Florence, rushes to help shovel mud from the family's winery. He then decides to stay and contributes to the evolution of the company.

Roberto, cultured and cosmopolitan, begins a pioneering activity in distant markets and becomes one of the advocates of the international success of Chianti. The acquisition of the Poggio al Casone vineyard coincides with the expansion of the winery on the Travalda estate in Santa Lucia.

On the night of New Year's Day in 1982, the business premises almost completely burned down. It seems to be the end. But within a few months, the Castellani brothers acquired the Campomaggio estate and, thanks to the contribution of Piergiorgio, Roberto's son, the company gained strength.

Viticulture and technological research are promoted by smart specialists such as the oenologist Sabino Russo and the agronomist Carlo Burroni. Today, this centenary company enthusiastically pursues the goal of producing wines that express one of the greatest oenological regions in the world: Tuscany
