Situated between Pommard and Meursault, the village of Volnay has shallow chalky soil. The Pinot Noir grapes produce elegant, velvety wines, with a unique taste of violets, raspberries and ripe plums.
was founded in 1859 after the acquisition of the Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules in 1826. Louis Jadot owns prestigious vineyards and has a wealth of know-how passed down from generation to generation, allowing him to offer wine lovers the best of Burgundy.
The vineyard
And l'Ormeau Domaine Gagey from Maison Louis Jadot is a Volnay Premier Cru wine that comes from a vineyard of 0.12 hectares. The vines are planted on thick clay soils, similar to those of the famous Premier Cru Bousse d'Or.
Winemaking and maturation
After the grapes are harvested by hand in small crates, they are sorted and destemmed by hand. Maceration takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The cap is punched twice a day during fermentation . Approximately 18 months in barrels made by the cooperage of Louis Jadot , 1/3 of which are new.
