Winzer Krems Grüner Veltliner Kremstal Reserve

Tasting note:

Fresh, rich and intense with flavors of peach and berry. The wine has a creamy structure and a mineral nose. The characteristic spiciness of Grüner Veltliner gives this wine a wonderfully long powerful aftertaste.

Winzer Krems

As Austria's largest quality wine producer, Winzer Krems takes ripe and healthy grapes from around 700 affiliated winegrowers with a contracted vineyard area of around 1,200 hectares and processes them into wines of the highest quality.

Wine growing in and around Krems goes back more than 2000 years. Favored by the mild climate, the soil conditions and the skill of the wine growers, Krems and the vineyards of the Wachau developed into the best wine growing region in Austria.

The first quality vines were here in the 3rd century AD, under the inheritance of the Roman Emperor Probus (276 to 282). In the "Vita Sankt Severini", the life story of Saint Severin, who lived in Krems and Mautern, it is mentioned that the saint withdrew "to the vines" (in the vineyards).

The vineyard “Kremser Sandgrube” was first mentioned in the 11th century and is still the best-known origin for Grüner Veltliner.

After the migration of peoples, wine growing started again with cultivation by Frankish and Bavarian monks. Since then, over 40 monasteries from Central and Western Europe have valuable vineyards in Krems and the surrounding area.

At a time when peasants in Europe suffered under serfdom, Krems winegrowers were treated on an equal footing with the middle class. The winemakers' guild, founded in Krems in 1447, was the oldest winemakers' guild in the German-speaking world and enjoyed a great reputation. The heyday of wine growing and social, ecclesiastical and secular gatherings of all classes led to an intensive and highly cultivated urban community life.

Krems received city rights as early as 1305 AD because the city's honour lies in its vineyards.

The winemakers' guild of Krems and Stein, headed by the "Father of the Winemakers", has great respect for their customs and their professional connection with winegrowing in a centuries-old tradition. At the ceremonial reception, each young Hauer testifies: "I promise a to be a good Hauer.” He knows that only through loving and hard work in the cellar and the vineyard can the prosperity of a good wine be guaranteed.

In 1938, Krems winemakers from the Krems and Stein winemakers' guild founded WINZER KREMS. The "father" of the lumberjack guild, Eduard Felsner, was also chairman of the board of WINZER KREMS until May 2005. Today, the new chairman, Florian Stöger, together with nine board members, the fate of Austria's largest wine producer. With the old wine tradition, the wine is maintained as a valuable cultural asset to give wine lovers pure pleasure year after year.
